To all my FB friends who are male: you may want to skip reading this post. Its all about female issues!! I have read quite a few posts from my friends indicating their displeasure with their doctors (luckily none local other than I heard a multitude of complaints that Dr. Gabbert was allowed to retire lol!), or asking for recommendations as they had to switch doctors due to insurance and/or retirement issues, so I wanted to share this tidbit: I had my annual exam today. I have always loved Dr. Snell as a doctor (which is why I have him as my boys doctor as well!) but was super impressed with what he had to say today. I have heard so many horror stories from my friends who have primary care physicians who try to talk them out of procedures they want done. A lady I know who wanted breast reduction surgery was told by her male doctor that she should consider her husbands wishes in that regard first. She left that doctor and went to a female doctor who looked at her life and saw that she was on her feet 50-60 hours per week and was having intense back aches. The female doctor approved the surgery in minutes! Today Dr Snell talked to me about some medical issues to consider in the future. While some of what we talked about wasnt applicable to me at this point in my life, I am so glad he took the time to sit and discuss with me medical options I may want to consider in 5 or 10 years. For example, he mentioned how some women want a partial hysterectomy due to nightmarish menstrual cycles that they have as they age and how this would stop that. Dr. Snell indicated that some doctors have taken the position that any unnecessary surgery is to be avoided but that his opinion was it was up the patient as it was the patient who was suffering from the complications and not him. How refreshing it is to have a doctor that truly advocates for the patient!! Clinton is truly blessed to have Dr. Snell! So for any of my friends looking for a new doctor, I highly, highly recommend him :)
