To all my friends; I would like to thank all most especially to those who have appreciated the small bit of physical geography I posted yesterday on Fb and Busogayaife. However, again so many calls come in for further information on how we can stop the occurrence of earthquakes. Some good friends of mine after appreciated they told me to go back to class and start teaching Geography but I would like to inform them that teaching of these days can be executed from any angle on this universe including under some one‘s bed. To note is that we humans cannot prevent the occurrence of earthquakes and I would like to inform you that do not lose sleep over it because this is a natural process bound to stay for a while. What we can do is just to help and prevent a death toll. E.g measures to reduce the damages of building structures and that means we have to develop a building Code. For Uganda our scale of earthquake is always 5 and below, this is very easy for structural and materials Engineers to develop affordable codes to suit our scale; we can also open earthquake centre especially in the department of Geology at Makerere and other universities to start predicting the possible season of occurrence. This information if accurate can prepare individuals for the likely happenings; we can further ensure that there is sufficient open space for people to gather in the event of an earthquake and based on the above if an earthquake occurs during working hours in Kampala where would our people gather? And we also need to have evacuation procedures in place in case an earthquake occurs. I would go on and on but everybody has a very tight schedule and hence not time to ready mountains of words most especially if the monetary attachment is zero. Good day
