To all my friends who fish for Red Snapper, I found out yesterday that this years season will only be 11 days long. It appears that a group representing commercial fishing interests filed suit against the Gulf Counsel claiming that the recreational fishermen were exceeding their quota and therefore damaging the population. Recreational fishermen are allowed 2 fish per day over 16 long. Snapper boats catch thousands of pounds per day. It appears to me that it would benefit the commercial fishermen a great deal for there to be no recreational season at all. Prices would rise as well as them not having to travel as far out to catch their quota. Someone got paid a lot of money to make this ruling. This is what happens when government gets involved in anything. Last year of the coast of Alabama the government decided to blow up old oil platforms. Thousands upon thousands of fish were killed with each explosion. Who monitors the government?
