To all my new and dear friends on this site. In light of all the recent losses some of you are going through, heartbroken and raw, I feel almost embarrassed to post this, but I too am in need of the support from you who understand...please indulge me.... This morning on our morning walk, my darling Duncan McStink was viciously attacked by a female husky. They were doing the normal doggie hello...sniffing and both polite and tails wagging. In a flash the husky grabbed Duncan from above by his neck and shook him violently. In true Scottie fashion, Duncan didnt cry but responded with his blood curdling growl and release of the inner Tasmanian devil and tried to fight back. The owner stood by and even though her dog was leashed, made no move to pull her off him. I finally had to put myself in the mix and managed to separate them with only minor bites and scrapes. Duncan showed no fear, and no weakness, even though it was obvious his neck was mangled. I gave him a once over and off to the vet we went. He has stitches and is swollen and is very tender, but is stoic - much more so than his mommy was...No drains needed at this point. We will have to wait to watch for infection and see if there is residual damage to his neck structure, but gratefully no broken vertebrae were seen. So far he is moving everything just fine if a bit slowly and cautiously. Please send your healing thoughts and blessings this way, as my little warrior is wounded and could use them. Thank you everyone for letting me vent; for your understanding ear...Im so glad to have a place to let the emotion out...Colleen
