To all of my VIRGINIA friends ages 18 and older. A coworker/friend - TopicsExpress

To all of my VIRGINIA friends ages 18 and older. A coworker/friend of mine was brutally murdered on December 23, 2012 in Harrisonburg. He was only 19 years old with a life full achievements and success ahead if him. His smile was infectious... and you couldnt help but like him. His parents are trying to have a couple of laws amended to provide that accessory after the fact to murder be changed to a state felony in the Commonwealth of Virginia and be revised to be named Bens Law. If you are interested in reading the proposed revision and sign it please comment below with your email address or private message me. This is near and dear to my heart, please help his family! please read the post from Debbie Hood Songer I have reposted below. Yesterday went really well. It was agreed that the law is a bad law and has been overlooked somehow. Research is being done to see how many other cases similar to Bens, where an accomplice to 1st degree murder in our state, also received only a misdemeanor charge. In Bedford County a horrendous crime was committed, I will spare the gory details, but it was another travesty of justice. This l...aw affects all of Virginia. Getting this law changed is not a political Republican, Democrat, or Independent petition. It is for citizens of Virginia to make a change in a law that affects fitting the punishment to the crime. Being an accomplice to the murder of our son is worth more than spending 11 months in jail instead of 5 to 20 years in a prison. Bens Law would not only honor his name but would make a difference for any others who lost someone precious to them to a senseless crime of murder. Wes and I could easily just throw our fists up to heaven and curse the injustice or do something about it. An official petition was drawn up yesterday. Each sheet explains the circumstances of Bens murder, how this law affected Bens family and friends, what law is being asked to be changed and that the revised law be named Bens Law. There are 10 lines below for signatures, city or county, phone #. Anyone who would like us to e-mail petition to them, my e-mail is [email protected]. Or stop by our house or we can bring to you. Our feelings and love for everyone who has been supportive will never be influenced by not doing this petition. It is something Wes and I feel compelled to do and no one else is expected to feel the same as us. Your love and caring of Ben and his family is not measured by a petition. Please know this.
