To all of you who give workshops to make people think that anybody can photograph weddings, I say this. To properly photograph a wedding professionally takes years of skill, education and practice, and can make or destroy the most treasured day in someones life. So why do you go and do this? For money? I just finished taping a video on how to shoot weddings. You would not believe how much information is in it. 3 Hours of equipment preparation, careful lens and body selection, lighting, posing. The equipment I take to shoot a wedding to my standards is at least $30,000 worth of gear. Each piece is crucial for what it does, and I dont take anything I dont need. It angers me when workshop leaders tell people with no experience or gear to just do it, spray and pray on someones wedding day. Shame on you. Do you do this for money or recognition? If you do this for money, let me tell you this... Time and time again, people who do this kind of thing ring up massive debt (to look cool), collapse under that debt, lose their professional standing and are never to be heard from again, and will die broke and bitter. Im actually watching it happen right now, as we speak.
