To all our Facebook friends - This is the Dragon (aka Kathy). Brock had a heart event (attack) on Wednesday (10/22). He didnt realize what it was and it subsided after about 15 minutes. I wasnt home. He was cleaning his deer head and it is quite aromatic and he thought his gagging was causing his chest and ears burning. So he had a beer, of course. The next morning, he woke up at 4 am and was having trouble taking a deep breath and thought he was getting sick. Finally, he dragged his butt to the Everett Walk in Clinic where they determined that he in fact had a heart event and was now in congestive heart failure (chest cavity full of fluid). He was transported via ambulance to Providence Hospital, Colby Campus and direct-admitted. Today he had an angiogram and the results are: he needs an aortic valve transplant and 2 bypasses. We dont know when that will happen, but assume within the week because they are not letting him come home. Brock is very comfortable and he is very upbeat. Brock has been under the care of a Cardiologist for the past 8 years because he has a congenital heart defect called a bicuspid aortic valve. So the idea of open heart surgery is something we have been talking about and researching quite a bit. He was going to do it this past summer, but he was feeling so good he put it off. So the stars have aligned to say, Brock, do it, do it, do it. He has opted for a mechanical valve replacement which is really the best option for his age and fitness level. He would love e-mails, videos, funny stories, articles, visitors...and he wants beer, but dont bring any. They have him on a low cholesterol, low calorie, low sodium diet. He has lost 8 lbs in 2 days and he is starving. I tried to order him extra food tonight and they told me he had reached his fat limit for the day and couldnt have the extra cookie. Food Nazis that believe in fake cheese. I think we will grind some deer meat tomorrow and bring him a burger. Everyone here is O.K. Brocks Mom is going to come up when Brock comes home and help me take care of what will be his little ass. Lindsay, Sara, and Jesse are here taking an active role. They instinctively know what we need without us asking. We couldnt ask for for a better support system. Your love, prayers, and warm thoughts are already felt very deeply.
