To all our supporters, myself and the team at Dive Tribe would like to thank you all for your constant support this year ....You Have Been Awesome !!! And what a year it has been !!! We started the year with 5 shark tag & release programs working with several dive centers in the Gulf of Thailand and asking them to begin collecting data on the sharks that they released. Over 200 sharks were released and we are proud to say we have seen some of them out and about. Dive Tribe have also started the largest eco friendly mooring project in Thailand by deploying helix anchor mooring systems, some doubted it would be done, but 9 boat mooring locations have been installed and there will be many more to come. DT also had the Royal Institute of Technology Sweden come and work alongside us and they produced and excellent academic paper on the need for the helix anchor system to protect coral reefs. We have installed a recycling center and rubbish collection points on Koh Sak, and had numerous beach clean ups and on one day alone collected over 900 kilos of trash from the island. We also have started research into micro-plastic pollution and invited Universities to join us on this project, which will be ongoing. Dive Tribe also launched there artificial reef program and coral nurseries, we have so far built 2 large swim throughs in steel and many concrete artificial bottle reefs, some have been deployed and some are waiting to be deployed once the powers that be give us the green light. We hosted the South East Asia Coral Bleaching workshop that was attended by international Dr’s, lead researchers and policy makers to help highlight and put together and action plan to protect our coral reefs. This year Dr Wayne Phillips and Chad Scott of New Heaven Dive Center have managed to start putting together the Ecological Monitoring Program here in Pattaya, this course is now on offer to the public and this weekend sees Dive Tribe laying the first permanent transect lines around Pattaya’s island so we may begin real research on the reefs here. Our thanks also has to go to the Department of Marine & Coastal Resources (DMCR).They have donated buoys and rope to our moorings project, given us signs to install on piers and always had time for meeting that have guided us through the correct procedures here in Thailand. I must mention that we were also given a Sea Hero Award in May of this year which is sponsored by Scuba Diving magazine and ORIS watches, this was a very proud moment for me and the team, as it is very much a team effort. So I must say a big thank you to all my team that have helped me this year (You Know who You Are ) !! Dive Tribe this year have also opened their own dedicated offices, classrooms, Laboratory and wet rooms which will help further our research and allow us to work with divers and the public on education and outreach programs. This week also sees the launch of our Seahorse conservation project here in Pattaya. Dive Tribe will work with Dr Tse-Lynn Loh from SHEDD aquarium in Chicago protecting and collecting data on these wonderful little creatures. Dr Lynn will giving a talk this weekend which is open for all dive centers to attend -We hope to see you there. So we want to build on this success and offer even more protection to our seas and all that live beneath them, this is why we are reaching out to you the public again to help us. Dive Tribe would like to be more flexible in our approach to marine conservation, and be able to go and dive, do installations and research at the sites we deem the most important. This is not always possible as we are currently having to dive from other dive operators boats which is governed by where they wish to dive. We have numerous days free where we could be working out in the ocean, collecting data, installing mooring systems or artificial reefs and introducing our students to marine conservation, only to find that we have either no boat available or a boat that will not be going to the site we require. We also want to run our boat on Bio-Diesel so to that end we have now built a Bio-Diesel plant and have started to make Bio Diesel that fuels our trucks and we hope soon our boat. A research vessel will allow us to work smarter and more efficiently out in the Gulf of Thailand. So if you could please help us to keep our promise to keep protecting the oceans we would be most grateful for any donation that may help us realise our goal.We see many posts and likes on facebook, if we could convert each “LIKE” into just a 1 dollar donation from everyone, we will have reached our goal. CROWD FUNDING is an easy way for us all to protect what we love -The Oceans !!! So Please Donate & SHARE - Thank You from all the team at Dive Tribe. gofundme/Saving-our-seas
