To all those my friends who swear by one political party or another, I want share this illustration with you. The major defection of politicians from one political party to another this year started with the former governor of Kano State, now the Minister of Education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, who dumped the APC in January this year for the PDP alongside the former Sokoto State governor, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa. The former governors had before then described the PDP as the party of evils. Shekarau while announcing his defection after a meeting with his supporters and loyalists held in his Kano residence said he left the APC because of the injustice in the party. Shortly after the national convention of the APC Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, announced his defection to the ruling PDP. Similarly, former Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, who had waited long for the PDP to abide by the court judgement nullifying his sack as the party’s secretary, openly criticised the party when he defected to the APC shortly before the August 9 governorship election in the state. According to oyinlola, the PDP on whose platform he contested for the governorship position in 2007 is a party of rogues Many Nigerians were utterly surprised about 2 months later when the presidential candidate of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria and ex-Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Nuhu Ribadu, who spoke promisingly about the determination of the APC to defeat PDP dumped the party for the PDP, the party he had described as a disaster and a total failure during his presidential campaign in 2011. Tom Ikimis defection from APC to PDP somehow did not surprise many people. Ikimi, who is believed to have no particular conviction, had also traversed the defunct APP, ANPP, ACN and APC The former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, recently resigned his position as the Board of Trustee Chairman of the APGA under which he was elected governor for two terms of four years each. The latest defection is that of the Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko from the Labour Party to PDP. He has been quoted as saying that this move is in the interest of the nation. However, his immediate task is to ensure the re-election of GEJ. A lecturer at Lead-City University, Ibadan, Dr. Tunde Oseni described the rampant cases of defection among politicians as unfortunate and said that it is a prove of lack of political principle and conviction. I not only agree with this scholar on the dearth of political ideology by our politicians but I asked my fellow Nigerians to read in between the lines... Our politicians have nobodys interest but their personal interest. Dont get it twisted, the lines between these parties is as blurred as 7 shades of black. 2015 beckons
