To all who were unable to attend our Sons Bar Mtizvah the following is Thorins Bar Mitzvah Speech. As i mentioned on Shabbat when he was introduced, Tamar and I gave Thorin the option to do any speech he wanted with no pressure from us. If he chose not to do one, he didnt have to, if he chose to free style rap it, he could (that was my idea and Tamar was none to supportive ;-). What he chose to do (which is entirely his work) follows: • In a land so very far, far away • Lived a prince who always got his way • When he wanted a sandwich to him it was brought • When he looked at a boat, they bought him a yacht • When he asked for a house, they built him a castle • Everything he wanted he got without hassle • He was shallow and selfish though no fault of his own • His only known concern was his heir to the throne • He always got his way and got what he wanted • Still with a desire of something more, he was haunted • But still everyday he awoke in his bed • Surrounded by riches, no real worries in his head • So one day the prince became so very bored • Of getting what he wanted and being called lord • So he decided to stop asking for things • And he got rid of his crown, his robes and his rings • He went out to a village and there he grew up • He got married, had kids, got a cat and a pup • After all of this time the prince learned to work hard • And not to be spoiled and to play his own card • He learned to enjoy life for what it is • And he learned that not everything that he saw was his • He saw that life is not all about money • He learned to have fun and that some things are funny • He grew up to be such a great man • Some say he was the greatest in the whole land • He loved helping people both young and old • No matter how weak and no matter how bold • And at the end of the day the lesson he learned • Is that is that its not the praise that you get it’s the way it’s returned • That being a man is doing for others • And watching out for not only yourself, but also for your brothers (pause) • Up till this day I’ve been prince of the land • Never wanting for anything my wish is their command • Not only have my parents given me what I need • They have also taught me the importance of doing good deeds • My grandfather, god bless, always used to say • It’s for your self you will answer at the end of the day • Hashem will not ask why you were not more like Daniel or Oren • His only concern is why not the best Thorin • So my goal on this day of becoming a man • In addition to being the best that I can • Is to follow my dreams and to work hard for success • And be kind and help others who are put to the test • So one day I’ll be king of my own castle • And get what I want with out problems or hassle • And I’ll be able to share with those people that do need • And fulfill my dream of being the best Thorin indeed
