To anyone who cares about the cowboys packers game, the call was - TopicsExpress

To anyone who cares about the cowboys packers game, the call was terrible. Completing the action of a catch all the way to the ground ONLY applies when no football actions have taken place. For instance, if you were to catch the ball, run 50 yards and dive for the goal line only to lose control of the ball upon hitting the ground it is clearly a catch. How does that change if you are only running a short distance? He took MULTIPLE steps and reached for the goal line. The only difference is that instead of running really far over multiple seconds, he ran 2 or 3 steps in a second or less. Here is essentially a similar play from super bowl 12 that was ruled a touchdown: https://youtube/watch?v=r8ad3pDqFO4. It seems that the problem lies with how much time elapses and not whether or not a football action takes place. Players who make massive plays in big moments are less likely to hold onto the ball after making the play and typically drop the ball quick to celebrate (Calvin Johnson). To me there really is no controversy and we should all be outraged at the call. I am not a cowboys or packers fan, but I recognize bad calls just like the one the week prior in the playoff game vs Detroit or the absolutely terrible call last year in the 49ers vs Seattle game. Funny how this happens every year in the playoffs...
