To anyone who has never been involved in product development, my night would lok like a complete waste of time (and money), but it was actually very productive. Rocket Stove ver 1.0a and 1.0b burned quite a few cups of wood pellets, ad I learned a few things. Such as, never ever ever ever ever prototype woodburning appliances using galvanized pipe. No brainer, doh!, but I just did it. I imagine there will be a wave of north central Flathead Valley birth defects starting in about 9 months or so. Also, no matter if youre doing your prototyping outside, youre still gonna end up smelling like you just got back from a keggar at Quarter Mile Meadow. Critical design criteria (is that redundant? not sure...) I need to research: ideal length to diameter ratio of the initial primary feed tube. Im pretty sure mine is too long. I think the rest of the dimensional ratios are pretty good, though. It really burnt quite well, and with amazingly little ash (and smoke). (That sounds like Im tryin to pull a fast one on ya, doesnt it? Not really, though... the reason I smell like a bonfire is from repeatedly sticking my face in the exhaust plume trying to get a good look down into the main combustion chamber, which I guess technically would be the secondary combustion chamber... the vertical arm of the j.) So I think its now worth moving forward onto the next stage, which I believe is most effectively executed with welded steel mech tubing. I hope theres a decent steel supplier in Kalispell. And, BONUS, now I have a valid excuse to buy an el cheapo mig. But itll be an el cheapo, for sure. A horizontal bandsaw would be nice, and a plasma cutter. I will definitely be pricing el cheapo plasma cutters. I really believe that I can develop this thing into a commercially viable specialized-application RV furnace. Its a very exciting time. https://youtube/watch?v=GVUTiuPuxMc
