To be afraid of mental illness is to be afraid of ones own - TopicsExpress

To be afraid of mental illness is to be afraid of ones own humanity. And as we evolve and gain both emotional intelligence and smarts it will be an increasing issue. Mental illness is not even illness it is a part of the normal human spectrum and the marginalization that people experience once they show any signs of having a struggle between intellectual and emotional self is only delaying a reckoning which is long overdue. We are culturally ill equip to deal with it so people are ignored, called malingerers, medicated and institutionalized which serves only to increase the intensity of the symptoms and pain, and further in trench the true illness which is our refusal to look at our own humanity. If we as a culture do not begin to accept the truth that we are fragile beings all predisposed to going over the deep end now and then, well we will be in for a pandemic like none we have ever seen. And the notion that this can be fixed with pills or even talk therapy is soon to be totally exposed for the ridiculousness that it always was.
