To be barren means not producing or incapable of producing offspring, sterile, unproductive; unfruitful. Jesus compared the nation of Israel to the fig tree, the fig tree look promising but offered no fruit. Israel is fruitful in appearance but spiritually barren. Many Christians look good from from afar but when you examine them closely they are spiritually fruitless. So when we are unable to bear fruit, unproductive spiritually then we are spiritually barren. The nutrient the tree needs to produce fruits and grow comes from the root, which makes the root it source. Christ is our source, without Him we will forever remain barren. As branches cannot be produces without the vine so do Christian will be unable to be fruitful except they are connected to Christ which is the Vine. Unproductive followers of Christ are as good as dead and will be cut off and cast aside. Possible causes of spiritual barrenness are: => Unconfessed sin => Not praying and studying the word => Putting our trust in material things, human instead of God => When we are too busy with our personal life leaving God behind. => Lack of Faith => Walking in the flesh => Doubt Overcoming spiritual barrenness means: => Our life must be deeply rooted in Christ. We must abide in Christ and His Word must also abide in us. And continue to fellowship with Him on a daily basis. The more delight in His presence, the more fruitful we are. =>Genuine faith means bearing fruit for Gods kingdom, faith without putting it to work in our life, then we are like fig tree that withered and died because it bare no fruit. The pathway to a fruitful life is a life rooted by faith in God. => Putting our trust in God and not in our own strength, ability or human. => God is holy, being connected to Him means we must live a holy life. => Pruning: it means some things will be taken away from our lives for us to be fruitful. We need to be pruned for effective production as the branches, be ready for pruning at all times. => Be obedient and be ready to do His will and also His work. Those who diligently try to obey Gods will are like healthy, fruit bearing trees with strong roots. Those who dont obey God have meaningless lives that blow away like a dust. => Praying and studying the word, as a tree soak up water and bear luscious fruit, we also are to soak up Gods Word, producing actions and attitudes that honor God. To achieve anything worthwhile we must pray always and have Gods Word in our hearts. => Do away with sin, it is as deadly as a cancer. God will not tolerate our forever lack of productivity. We need to always respond to our Husbandman(God) patient care and begin to bear the fruit that God has created us to produce. For God is glorified when we come into a right relationship with Him and begin to bear much fruit in our lives. Ask God to help you bear fruit for His kingdom.
