To be born again doesn’t mean that we have to go back to our mother’s womb and take birth again. Not the physical external birth, but the internal mental birth is what HE intended when HE spoke to Nicodemus. So is the case when Jesus mentions of children in today’s gospel: “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for hiding these things from the learned and the clever and revealing them to mere children...” (Luke 10:21). What Jesus intends is not the physical status of children but their mental status. Revelation is not knowledge gained, but knowledge received in grace. Like light is necessary for vision even though eyesight is normal, similarly God’s help from above is necessary to have revealed knowledge though cognitory tools of reason function in proper order. Self reliance alone will not do any good for revealed knowledge. Children are never self reliant, which meets the basic mental status required to have revelation. It is hard for the learned and the wise to open their hearts seeking reliance from above or even others. They thereby miss the chance to have revealed knowledge. Like children do, open your arms up in air with faith, and then the divine wisdom is sure to embrace you. Today’s gospel Luke 10:21-24 (Calendar Western) 3-12-13 Thy Kingdom Come (167*)
