It is bordered in 3 sides by India, and one side by the Bay of Bengal. In colonial period, Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan was the same country. In 1947 when British left the sub-continent, it was divided in two countries based on religion – India and Pakistan. Bangladesh was then a part of Pakistan as a Muslim major area. In 1971 Bangladesh was liberated from Pakistan after 9 months of war, in which 3 million Bangladeshi people died. Bangladeshi people wanted peace not the discrimination among Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Buddhist etc. religions followers. When ever ull say Im Bangladeshi people will be thinking This guy is Muslim What is the religion of Bangladeshis? to be honest Bangladesh is a Muslim Country. About 75% of the population(160 million people) are Muslim people.And rest of them are Christians,Hindus, and Buddhist Though it is a Muslim country, there is no Muslim extremists here. Unlike Pakistan and Afganistan, this is a moderate Muslim country(Mon theke koilam). No one will tell you anything if you do not cover your head while you are here. You can dress as you wish, do whatever you like but has to be acceptional to all. Bengali or Bangla is the language in Bangladesh. The country name Bangladesh actually means “Country of Bangla”. Desh means COuntry. Everyone in this country speak Bengali, but there are also some Indigenous peoples, in the hill-tract area who has some different different languages , cultures and mix of diversity. They are Garo, Chakma, Marma, Shawtal, Tripura, Jaintia, Monipuri, Tanchangaya,Hajong, Mro...etc! and Im one of those Indigenous Peoples.
