To be published tomorrow in the local paper: 30 word bio: Mum trying to ‘be the change she wishes to see’. MD, coach, community leader, school governor, panel member and volunteer. Passions: honesty, transparency, accountability, residents’ voices, community conversations, councillors’ accessibility. Q1) What will the people of Weston and Worle be getting if they vote for you? I will not patronise voters with empty promises. I offer the same quality people-centred service that I give my many voluntary roles in Weston but my main focus in the North Worle area is to solve local issues. I believe residents are the area’s experts and often know what is needed to solve local problems. I want to facilitate community conversations to allow these issues and solutions to be discussed and then implement residents’ suggestions. Q2) Big Worle has been given £1million to improve the area. What is the first thing you’d spend some of the money on? I’m involved with the Big Worle project and therefore know that all decisions are made by vote so no single person makes these decisions. I’d like more people to get involved with this exciting project. As the local commissioning network in Weston East is struggling to meet all of the needs of children and teenagers in this large area I would welcome Big Worle money being spent on things for them and their families. It could help tackle isolation, mental health issues and local crime. Q3) For many people in Weston, the Tropicana remains the big issue. How would you like to see the situation resolved? It is not the ‘big issue’. It is a talking point but people are more concerned about their local area than focusing on things which are outside of the ward. This obsession causes North Worle to become even more neglected. It should be turned in to something for everyone in the town, rather than aimed solely at the tourists. No councillor is allowed to discuss or vote on their own planning proposals so voting in one to ‘fix’ the Tropicana will not help. It will be really interesting to read what the other candidates say.
