To celebrate Labor Day and Grandparents Day, pay tribute to the work lives of your loved ones by sharing defining memories about your grandparents at work. What did your grandparents do for a living? What did your grandparents teach you about work? How did your grandparents work lives shape who you are today? Work is a huge part of our lives, from the jobs we do to the skills we develop and the careers we try to build. And just as significantly, the jobs that our grandparents had play a huge role in our family history, setting us on a path to who we’ve each become. While the world of work has changed dramatically from one generation to the next, what hasn’t changed is why we work – to earn a decent living, to take care of our loved ones, and to retire with dignity. As we celebrate Labor Day and Grandparents Day in the same week, we want to take a look back at the jobs and hard work of our grandparents. Join Jobs With Justice, Caring Across Generations, CLUW and other organizations in honoring our grandparents by sharing a photo, video or quick story about the way they worked. When: The Way They Worked will publicly kickoff on Thursday, August 28, for #TBT (Throwback Thursday) in the lead up to Labor Day, September 1, and will continue through Grandparents Day, Sunday, September 7. If possible, we’d love for you to share your stories or videos with us by Friday, August 22, so that we can feature and promote them heavily immediately upon the launch If you’re not able to make that deadline, we will of course accept submissions at any point on or before Grandparents Day: Sunday, September 7. Stories can be very brief (two paragraphs) and ideally accompanied with a photo, video or other visual. Once the site goes live we will notify you how to submit at that time.
