To clarify - my father was in the Hitlerjugend and nobody asked him politely if he wanted to join, everyone had to join or else .... He was too young to be in the Nazi party, as was my mother. Anyway, where he grew up, there were no Jews living, he told me. He encountered only ONE Jew in boarding school - later he turned out to be the world famous Friedensreich Hudertwasser. People were hiding him in Horn (thats the town I was born) to protect him from the Nazis. So there were plenty of people in Austria, and I am sure also in Germany who protected jewish people.
