But to those both close to and affected by OU Football Inc., including those in and around the university, Stoops’ salary is actually an investment. And it pays handsomely. OU ranked No. 7 in Forbes’ annual analysis of the richest college football programs in the nation last December, with a $92 million overall value. OU also ranks No. 7 in USA Today’s database of revenue produced by the nation’s athletic departments. This is no coincidence. According to the OU Athletics Department 2012-13 Annual Report, the football program brought in 34 percent of the department’s $100 million in revenue. Contributions were responsible for another 20 percent, while Big 12 Conference distribution provided 18 percent.
