To develop and find your own musical voice. Isnt that the primary idea of playing an instrument? Are keyboard-players exempt to this rule? 17 yrs on this full-time, ongoing journey studying harmony, Rhythm, Technique, Repertoire, and I still find myself in situations where people want me to play chords with a freckin string patch. Why? Singers sing, the drummer gets to play his drums, the bass-player plays bass, the horn players play their horns, the guitarist is still the dude who cant digest breakfast without a bendy solo and yet the keyboard player gets the leftovers playing strings and nerdy synth patches NOBODY wants to really hear. In an age where any computer can play those fake strings and synths, I can only say to my Key bros and sistahs-- play those Rhodes! Play those Wurlis! Play those Organs! Play those Klavinets! Play those Moog solos! And please leave the dorky stuff to people who choose to be such. Were keyboard-players. We play keyboards.
