To ditch potential grooms Part 19 I was laying in the bed - TopicsExpress

To ditch potential grooms Part 19 I was laying in the bed when I heard the telephone ring. I was feeling extremely lethargic and refused to go and answer. I heard a blood curling scream from my mom and sprang up from the bed. I ran to my moms side and saw her standing there, the blood draining from her face as she held the receiver in her hand. Mom, whats wrong? She stood like a statue and uttered not a single word as I repeated myself. I was petrified. I knew something terrible must have happened. Mom, mom. What is it? I pleaded with her. Accident she whispered as tears rolled down. Be calm Shazia, I repeated to myself. We didnt know exactly how bad things were yet. My father walked in and demanded to know what was going on. We need to get to the hospital cried mom. We all huddled into my fathers car as we set off for the hospital. Each off us sat in complete silence, embroiled in our own thoughts as we neared the hospital. We had no idea how bad the accident was. As we arrived there we spotted Aunt Zahra and her family. We approached them and was told that there was an accident. Ahmed, Shahid and their mutual friend Farhad were in the vehicle. All three of them were alive but had sustained severe injuries. They were being attended to as we spoke. We had to wait for further information. The joy of earlier had vanished, it was a far cry from the depression and anxiety that now cloaked the waiting room as we waited completely helpless and hopeless for some news of the three of them. Mom and aunt Zahra, hands interlinked sat side by side, each giving the other support as best they could. Dad and uncle Hassen paced up and down the waiting room anxious to know the fate of their sons. My other two brothers were conversing quietly in the corner of the room as Naz and I sat together, both of us at a complete loss for words for the very first time in our lives. Dear ALLAH (GOD) please let them live I begged silently. I bargained with GOD with regards to their lives. I promised to do a whole lot of things if he just had mercy and let them survive. Now that I finally had some sort of relationship with my brother, I was not prepared to relinquish hold of him. Just then the door to the waiting room flew open as a distraught looking Nabeela staggered in with a crying Nadia in her arms. Nabeelas parents had accompanied her. The oddness of the situation struck me as this was the first time that Nabeela was facing her ex in laws as well as her future in laws in the same place. I could only imagine what she was feeling as her ex husband and childs father as well as her future husbands lives hung in the balance. She rushed over towards us inquiring if there was any news. My heart went out to this woman who dashed away the tears as she tried to quieten her daughter. She has been through so much and it seemed that when she finally found her happy ever it was just beyond her grasp as life hurled another curve ball at her. Farhads wife and his parents were the next to enter the already over crowded waiting room. They were also told to wait as the doctors were fighting valiantly to save the lives of the three young men. The atmosphere in the waiting room was really intense, we all spoke in hushed tones as if the loudness of our voices made a difference to anything. To be continued...
