To every cop out there....please take the two minutes or so it - TopicsExpress

To every cop out there....please take the two minutes or so it requires to read this post.....leave a comment if you want, or not...just know this...you are not alone. I, like many of you have been watching, witnessing and trying to absorb and comprehend all that has happened over the last several days, weeks and months. Many a person and politician has taken up a hateful and, now proven, harmful stance against Law Enforcement Officers. The News Media is also not completely free from blame here, either. So much coverage and direct impact statements and video placed before the American public....What did any person think was going to happen? Someone, somewhere was going to take up arms against a Police Officer. I mean not to just simply assault, as we all watched already unfold and occur....but to kill a Police Officer or Officers. With little to no regard placed upon the lives of Law Enforcement Officers all across this Nation I have heard many Officers speak as to their Wives, Husbands, Mothers, Fathers, Sons and Daughters have begged them to be extra careful and some have even implored their significant other to resign or quit their thankless and now more than hazardous than ever job. To all of you, Officers and Family Members alike, please know I am not just some guy on FB posting about social / current events. I am a real, live, living, breathing Dad, Friend, Cop, Chief of Police in fact. However, above all of those things....I am a human being. I breathe, feel, laugh, hurt, cry, sing, dance, love and live like any other human being. There is no cape, no letter S on my chest. I am just a guy. Further than this though...I am a cop who has had to use force, even deadly force in my career. It was not what I wanted. I certainly wasnt seeking those terrible moments. Yet, they came and I did what had to be done. Nothing more. Nothing less. I am no Hero. I have saved many lives in my career and tragically, I have had to take life as well. In the course of these events I too, was shot. Twice. And, in my assessment, by the Grace of God...am still here. I have striven to live my life to the best and fullest of my ability in perhaps some small way to repay the second chances I have been given. There are no easy, one stop shop answers to this place we have found ourselves to be. I am sincerely, openly and honestly speaking from the heart here...I wish no ill to anyone, upon anyone. Yet, please understand, Law Enforcement must stand their ground. With no Law, there is no Order...there is only chaos, suffering and more tragedy than anyone can possibly comprehend. Should we fail....well, we just can not fail. We just cant. I would like to express to any Law Enforcement Officer and their families who read this post to please know you have my unwavering and undying support and admiration. Please do not mourn for to long. Please do not hold your heads down in some shameful fashion for doing what youve been called upon to do. Our task, the task of the few, to defend the many, can at times, be the highest calling one can answer. Sadly, the cost can be equally as high...as we have seen in recent days. Please remember; Do not give up. Do not give in. Ever. Stay strong. Keep your head up and remember this lesson I recently learned..... Even the smallest of people can change the hearts many. We have much work left before us to be done. Now is definitively not the time to falter, fail or quit. Please have a safe and Merry Christmas or what ever Holiday you and yours enjoy. Remember, this one fact alone, you are still here, is a fact worth fighting for. Sincerely, Me
