To everyone that says the Ice Bucket Challenge is stupid, and that - TopicsExpress

To everyone that says the Ice Bucket Challenge is stupid, and that people nominated should donate $100, rather than poor ice water over their head and donate $10: Ive known about ALS for a long time, and I have been aware of the horrible affects it has on the body--but I have never thought to donate $100 for research. In fact, Im confident in saying, the majority of people have never thought to donate any money to an ALS fund. So, the reason this is such a powerful fad and a purposeful internet sensation is because it is leading countless people to donate $10 each, that otherwise wouldnt have been donated. If, on the other hand, they donated $100, then no one else would be challenged to do so, and the chain would stop at one person (never mind the fact, that not everyone can afford to donate $100!). Therefore, by using the Pay it Forward technique at $10 a head, the amount of donations are guaranteed to come in as long as this thing continues on, and on top of that, people are having fun while they do it. Yes, hopefully in this time, some of the people that dont know much about the disease will educate themselves because theyre curious, and want to know what this thing is all about, but the $10-$30-$90-$270-$810-etc. being donated, with each round, is whats important… So, please, get off your high horse. Just because you have always been aware, and have always donated, doesnt mean everyone else should have been too. There are countless diseases and organizations out there, and maybe ALS never hit close to home for these people. So, instead of taking the fun out of a great fundraiser, look at the bright side: People have been talking about ALS now, constantly, for two weeks--all while donating AND having fun!
