To everyone who had their lives touched in some way by this extraordinary woman, we want to let you know that the Afifa Ahmed Shafi Memorial Page on Facebook is now online... And we need Your help to make it amazing! The page was launched on July 31st at 6pm PT with a “virtual vigil” by a small group of her friends on multiple continents around the world in solidarity with the memorial service in Washington. In less than 24 hours it has already gotten nearly 200 “likes” and is growing by the minute. The page is now being administered by a small collective of Afifa’s friends and family. The vision is for this page to grow organically as everyone’s love for Afifa pours into it and for it to be both a memorial--an amazing collection of pictures, humorous stories, touching moments, tributes, love, struggles and triumphs--as well as a vibrant living space for the continuation of her mission and vision. And so we need your help: 1) If you have not done so already, please “like” the memorial page. Then, please encourage others to “like” the page, so we can begin spreading Afifa’s message to the world. 2) Please post something about Afifa on the Memorial Page. It doesn’t matter how short or long the post is. It doesn’t matter how well or how long you knew Afifa. If you had even a single encounter with her, she no doubt impacted your life and it would mean so much if you could share a story or a moment or a memory. If you already posted something on Afifa’s personal Facebook page, please re-post something here even if it is the exact same content--both so it can be permanently enshrined, but also because it has come to our attention that many, many people who knew and loved Afifa do not have Facebook accounts, and thus were not FB “friends” with Afifa and therefore could not see ANY of the moving comments that were left on her personal facebook page. Many of these people are starting FB accounts now just to see and contribute to the outpouring of love for Afifa, but they cannot see the wall posts on her personal page so please re-post on the Memorial Page. Also, Afifa’s Sister, Afrose is collecting stories about Afifa for a book as well and will be taking them from this page....she is looking especially for funny or touching moments that usually go forgotten. 3) Please, please, post your pictures of Afifa on the Memorial Page. It would be great to indicate where, when and with whom the picture was taken, as well as any memories about the moment.....but if you don’t remember, just post your Fifa pics anyways! We want to try and collect as many wonderful images of her as we can. Let us bring this page to life with Afifa’s spirit so we, as her beloved community, can come together, take what Afifa taught us and commit ourselves to bringing her message and vision to the world.
