To everyone with home or renters insurance who has had an adjuster tell you you arent covered for sewage backups; you have another option if your insurance wont cover your flood damage. You can sue the city. Apparently there are lawyers that specialize in lawsuits involving sewer backups, especially in some cities where the sewer and drain systems are supposed to be separate. Your argument would basically be that the system failed and youre suing for damages because this isnt supposed to happen. But you have a limited amount of time in some cities. You need to thoroughly document the damage, contact a lawyer, and contact the city within 45 days to let them know you intend to sue, otherwise you may waive your right to ever seek damages.
