To facilitate Asar jemaah (congregational) prayers at the Office, our Islamic Welfare committee fixed a specific iqamah/prayer time, assign Muazzin/Imam, and sent out a Outlook e-mail Calendar inviation to all Muslim staff. Its a simple initiative but it makes a huge difference, and heres sharing so perhaps you can implement it at your workplace too. The Objectives are - to inculcate in ourselves the discipline to pray on time, and plan our daily work schedule around our top priority, not to reshuffle our priorities around our work schedule. - to facilitate the best congregational prayers and strive for the best when it comes to our investment Hereafter. The Prophet said congregational prayers are 27 times superior in Reward, and the larger congregation is more beloved to Allah. Fixed iqamah time to allow people to know when to plan accordingly; to also allow some buffer time for a bigger congregation and for people to make their wudhu / ablutions - regular reminders; calendar invitations would give timely popup reminders on the computer, and on the email-enabled mobile devices. Alhamdulillah it turned out great and the congregation is 3-4 times larger than what it normally was. The key ingregedient is to be steadfast and consistent on the initiative to make it a fixed habit; delegate tasks if you’re on business trip, but keep the initiative going. Naturally there will be people who ignore or even decline the invitation - dont worry about it: in helping each other towards righteousness, we do our part.. thats what counts. May Allah make us amongst those who are steadfast in guarding our prayers and establishing them on time, and in the best of congregations, and to assist others towards achieving this goal. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) was once asked, Which of deeds are most beloved to Allah? He responded, Prayer (early) upon its time (Narrated by Al-Bukhari) The Prophet said, The (reward of) Congregational prayer is more superior to prayer alone by 27 times (Narrated by Al-Bukhari) .. and the more (i.e. the larger congregation) is more beloved to Allah azza wajall (Narrated by Abu Dawud and ibn Majah, graded hasan) The first matter (deed) that the slave will be brought to account for on the Day of Judgment is the prayer. If it is sound, then the rest of his deeds will be sound. And if it is bad, then the rest of his deeds will be bad. (Recorded by al-Tabarani. According to al-Albani, it is sahih)
