To family and friends who have been asking: I finished my 3rd - TopicsExpress

To family and friends who have been asking: I finished my 3rd week of doxycycline this past Friday. I had a follow up with my PCP today. It has been 10 months (almost to the day) since I was bitten by the tick (s). He says that a review of the x-rays shows some permanent damage to multiple joints in my body (hips, knees, ankles, shoulders, etc.) Even with these results, he still feels that I will continue to heal for the next 8 to 10 months. After that, he says that I will be as good as to be expected...but will never be back to 100 percent! He started me back on antibiotics...this time, jumping it from the 200 milligrams per day to 1,000 milligrams per day for the next 2 weeks. Typically, for a tick born illness, he says a 3 week 200 milligram dose would do it. But with my size & weight...along with the length of time that I have been fighting this, he felt the additional high dose was necessary. I agree with him about continuing the treatment. I started to feel worse, almost immediately, after finishing the first dose. Hopefully, this run will kill off any remaining disease & I will be back on the road to recovery! Time will tell how complete it will be. Please understand, I am putting this on here because people have been asking. I realize that so many of my friends and family are dealing with much more serious conditions, or ailments. They are in my thoughts and prayers every day! I do, however, want everyone to be aware of the problems that ticks can cause. Please check yourselves thoroughly after any time spent outdoors in wooded or grassy areas (or if you have indoor/outdoor pets that may carry ticks into your home) and take action immediately if you start to exhibit symptoms. If you think you have Lyme disease, be persistent! The accuracy of the first test is questionable at best (somewhere between 30 to 50 percent false negatives.) I dont even want to think about where I would have ended up if I would have settled for the Rheumatologists diagnosis of Fibro myalgia & allowed him to treat me with lifelong prescription pain medication! I would also like to thank all of you for your love and support through all of this! You all are great!!! :)
