To friends and family, there are big changes afoot for Kelly Marston and I. After 28 years at Plantation Farm Camp (the last ten as directors), we will be leaving Plantation at the end of December. While leaving is bittersweet, we are also really excited to announce our new camp, Camp Jak. Camp JaK will be a place where we fully implement our values and we will continue to offer an exceptional community-based camp experience. Below is a copy of the joint letter sent out by us and the Brown family. ----- September 27, 2013 Hello Plantation Family, A new chapter is starting at Plantation Farm Camp. John and Kelly have spent ten successful years here as directors, but after much deliberation they have decided not to continue running Plantation. They are looking forward to the next step in their lives, running Camp JaK (for John and Kelly) at Valley Trails Ranch in Castaic, CA. The location is different, but many elements of Camp JaK’s program and values will be familiar, and they will continue to run a high quality camp program, focusing on community, each child’s development and helping kids thrive. David, Suzanne and the Brown family would like to thank John, Kelly, and their staff for their stewardship of Plantation, and for continuing Abe and Eve Crittenden’s vision for a children’s summer camp in this beautiful location. Since 1952, that vision was, and will continue to be, a summer program for children and staff of diverse backgrounds who work together in the farm setting to have fun, while developing personal responsibility, self-esteem, and a sensitivity to the environment. The Browns are using the fall months to imagine and plan for the next chapter of Plantation Farm Camp, so please stay tuned for information about the 2014 season.
