To help change the topics a little for you Sarah Freeman I will start by saying I grew up in Tusc Twp and graduated from Tuslaw in 1971. I bought my first house in Massillon in 1982 and ran for council a few years later in the 5th ward against incumbent Mark VanVorhees (sp?) I tried to stay involved in politics but was not able too as most of my employment through the years ended up on afternoon shift. I am now retired and try to stay very involved. I believe the best park we have is at the rezzy but I think the childrens play area would be more convenient closer to the main entrance so the parents and grandparents could take advantage of the pavilion at the same time the children are playing. I think Genshaft park is going to be great with the improvements of the ball fields. I believe Community park is one of the newest and is really becoming run down due to the rec dept lack of money for upkeep. The play equipment is old and outdated, needs new ground mulch and basic landscaping has not been kept up. I believe the past Mayor did a lot to try to make Massillon a better place, sometimes using his heart more than his head for some things that have hurt us all in the end. The loss of a lot of great manufacturing jobs in Massillon has hurt the city tremendously. I believe we can become a great community again but it takes a lot of working together, without personal agendas getting in the way, to find a new niche to get more people downtown. It is beginning already with Hannah Candles moving back, the Chit Chat Cafe relocating and Bill Weaver working hard to bring back the Sugar Bowl. All we hear is what is bad with all the problems the city is having financially but there are people working hard to try to make the city a better place to visit. It takes time and it also takes people to support these places to keep them going. It all may not be changing as fast as we would like but I believe there are changes for the better and more changes coming. :)
