To help our fight against ticks and tick borne diseases, there is a new product that we are carrying called Bravecto by Merck Pharmaceuticals. We are very excited about it because it is a chewable tablet that provides protection against fleas and ticks for 3 months. This means 12 weeks of protection from just one dose. It is effective against fleas as well as the 3 species of ticks that are common in our region - the brown dog tick, the American dog tick, and the deer tick which can transmit Lyme disease. More than 98 percent of the ticks are killed within 12 hours of attachment, which is a short enough time to help prevent the transmission of tick borne diseases such as Lyme.
