To know me is to know I am a true fiscal and social conservative...a proud patriot. I have never felt like my conservative principles have contradicted the brazen spirit that made me risk everything to start my own company in the middle of the recent recession. On the contrary, that entrepreneurial spirit is at the heart of what makes our country great. Its part of the American dream. I am a proud member of the West Texas Home Builders Association, a group that has recently come under attack as a special interest group trying to buy votes. Much like my own story, this association is made up of hard working small business men and women...plumbers, electricians, builders, developers and vendors who voluntarily join together and donate their money to support candidates that they vet and decide best represent their small businesses and the future of Lubbock. That is not only within their rights, but also admirable. I have backed a lot of candidates in the last decade, some of whom received money from HomePAC and others who did not. Even this political cycle, I found myself backing some different statewide candidates then HomePAC supported. Good people can disagree. However, I have always respected their passion and engagement in the political process. I also believe that capitalism, free markets and profit are not 4 letter words. I am thrilled these folks are successful, influential, and use that influence for good, such as the charity they help found - Lubbock Homes for Heroes. I call many of them dear friends. I know the political system has become very corrupt, and citizens are rightfully cynical, but we cant silence political donors by painting them all with a broad brush. If we do, we will soon find ourselves without our Republic. #MySpecialInterestIsLubbock
