To me, one of the most annoying inventions were the early drum machines. I mean, yeah, sure I used them when I didnt have a live drummer in the 1970s or when I used to play the second worse instrument in the world other than a Kazoo, a 1970s Yamaha Electone Organ. And I had to play that too, in church. Thank God He released me from that hell and my Dad bought me a Hammond Organ when I was 15. The only thing more annoying to me than a drum machine is when a drummer deliberately tries to sound like a drum machine. I blame stupid Darryl Hall and John Oates and also Phil Collins (who is actually a great drummer) for that. The effect of the drum machine is basically a poor imitation of a drummer. The effect of a drummer trying to sound like a drum machine is like a human trying to sound like a really bad sounding machine. If I was suicidal, that is the point I would reach for a razor and slit my wrists. But luckily I am not even slightly suicidal. However, if I had a choice playing with a drummer trying to sound like a drum machine or a drum machine, I would take the drum machine. Why? because murdering a drum machine is not a capital offence. Now, I must say that I do love the great drum samples and great loops played by great drummers that I can use with my music programs like Logic etc.....this is not the same as the drum machines of yore. I seldom switch of the music on bad music, i tune it out or let my thoughts move away from the music. But I DO switch off the radio when I hear a drum machine or a drummer trying to sound like a drum machine. Now....would you like me tell you how I really feel about all this? Hahahaha! Sorry, ok, now Ive let go of steam, I can go to sleep.
