To me, the saddest part of this video is the spectator saying its like shes never driven before. Driving practice doesnt make you better at parallel parking. For that matter, practicing parallel parking doesnt necessarily even make you better at parallel parking. Because parallel parking is one of those skills where theres a non-obvious trick. If you know the trick you can eventually work your way in or out of just about any spot even if youre not very good at it. If you dont know the trick, youre gonna have a bad time no matter how much skill you have at other driving tasks. And in case you dont know the trick, here it is: every time you move forward or backward in the parallel parking maneuver you need to make an S curve, with the car starting and finishing parallel to the curb. If you do that, every movement will make progress and youll eventually make it into the spot. If you dont finish the S, then when you reverse direction, youll undo some of your progress. Ive watched a lot of these parallel parking fail videos over the years, and its always this same mistake: not finishing the S.
