To meet members of the Australian cricket team a few moments ago who are currently on tour here was to feel a bit emotional as I was reminded of one man (Peter Roebuck) who was Australian and who was really instrumental in making me what I am today, but who, sadly, passed away in November 2011. Peter’s job as a journalist (which he was exceptionally good at) caused him literally to travel around the globe with the Australian cricket team and the thought that he could actually have been on this current tour had he been alive today was just a little overwhelming for me. But there’s one positive thing about this tour. This is the first time in 10 years that Australia have toured Zimbabwe- after a decade of cutting ties for political reasons. It signifies a significant change in approach, a desire to re-engage and a gradual realization that there is very little to be gained from severing relations with, and imposing sanctions on, a rich, friendly and innocent country. Long may it last!!!
