To my Las Vegas FB friends: - a message from Elliot Karp re Israel situation Dear Friends, Last night I arrived in Israel following my amazing journey to the Jewish community of Greece. Upon arriving at our hotel in Tel Aviv I was struck...and impressed...by the traffic, people in the streets, the bars and all around. One would handle notice from outward appearances that Israel is once engaged in a major operation to eradicate the terrorist threat of Hamas rockets being launched from Gaza. This morning I awoke and was brushing my teeth when the air raid sirens began to wail as a Code Red was issued. I immediately picked up my cell phone, threw on a pair of pants and walked to the miklat or shelter on the 23rd floor of my hotel...and as I did I could her the explosions in the sky of the IDF Iron Dome defensive rockets being launched and then seconds later the loud boom as they intercepted and destroyed an incoming Hamas rocket. Together with other guests we waited in the shelter for the all clear signal which came only a few minutes later. This is the reality of life in Israel...a normal evening out and the morning shattered by sirens and rockets...and then life continues...the busses are rolling in the streets below my window, the Carmel Market is coming alive with people...just another day in Israel. But not really. Just south of my hotel the IDF is amassing tens of thousands of our brave and proud sons as they prepare for what most believe will be a land offensive in to Gaza as the IDF Air Force continues to bomb Hamas targets in Gaza. The Israeli Government and Prime Minister Netanyahu will do all that they have to do in order to protect and secure the safety of Israel. What can we do? I am in Israel where I am participating on the National Campaign Chairmans and DIrectors Mission of the Jewish Federations of North America. We will be meeting today with beneficiaries of our support from the Jewish Federation at the Jewish Agency for Israel and the JDC in order to let them know that we stand together with Israel; and that we will do all we can to help...including special summer camps out of the danger zone for children, special meals on wheels and assistance to homebound elderly and much more for the 1 million Israelis who are under threat each moment by Hamas. Together with JFNA, our Jewish Federation may start a special Israel Emergency Campaign to support these activities...as our way of helping Israel and our brothers and sisters. More on this should be known within the next 24 hours and I will certainly keep you informed. What can you do? You can attend tonights Rally for Israel at 7pm at the Adelson Educational Campus. Show your support, your care and your concern...by coming together as a community...to stand together with Israel at this time! Believe me...our Israeli brothers and sisters are buoyed by our support! Everyone...from our bus driver and guide to the front desk clerk and the maid I sat next to in the shelter this morning said two words...Todah Rabah! Thank You! Thank you for coming and thank you for caring! They offer Todah Rabah to all of you in Las Vegas...for attending tonights rally and for Standing With Israel!
