To my friends and family, first I thank you for the kind birthday - TopicsExpress

To my friends and family, first I thank you for the kind birthday wishes today. They were all well received though I have been unable to respond to them all. Secondly, I want to thank all those who supported me to run ASB Auckland Marathon today. Jules, Linda, Phyllis and Hope were awesome keeping our spirits up while also keeping us well supplied with nutrients. I also appreciated their innovative use of my campaign hoardings! (see photo). To Lei Aufai my running buddy - you were awesome. I could not have made it without you my man. You hung in there with me when the pain was excruciating and I thought the task was almost beyond me! To all those who have supported me through messages, prayers and financial donations to my 4 nominated charities a huge thanks! While we have raised some good funds I still need some more donations to reach my target. Its still my birthday so please donate generously at givealittle.co.nz/cause/Teamlotto. Its certainly been an interesting birthday! However, I am now sure to take wise advice that this will be my last marathon and certainly while I remain am in politics. Having run 2 previous marathons for charity (world vision and make a wish) I forgot just how hard it really is physically, mentally and sometimes even emotionally! However, I know all the pain was worth it because some of the most high need kids in my neighbourhood deserve a little light from others generosity. That definitely kept the mind focused even when the body was at times not willing! Also, this day more than any other day I remember my Dad. On this day last year he was taken to Middlemore Hospital after a heart attack on his favourite golf course. Sadly he died the next day! RIP Papa - your supportive spirit and cheeky grin continue to guide me and your love will never leave me!
