To my friends near and far who have inquired as to how i am doing - TopicsExpress

To my friends near and far who have inquired as to how i am doing with Krav Maga training (really, Kavanah is what we call it), today, i was told by my instructor Dr. Neil Farber that i demonstrated proficiency needed to attain a yellow belt. As many of my friends know, i was involved with Master Yin and the Shaolin Kung Fu school here in Milwaukee, WI during my teenage years. Then i had a bad car accident, when someone ran a red light and clobbered me, totaling the car and screwing up my back. Thus... For the better part of the last 27 years, i told myself that my back would never be strong enough to do marital arts. When i turned 44, i knew that i couldnt make any more excuses and that win, loose or draw, i had to begin challenging myself physically, irregardless of the consequences. While the training i have been doing is geared towards teaching the student a highly effective program of self-defense, what i have learned in the short time i have been doing it, is the real reward; that is, we all have limitations, but when the heart and mind work in concert with one another, we all possess the ability to stand undaunted against the limitations that our very body can place on us daily. The Chinese say, that the only reason the teeth fall out and the tongue doesnt is because the tongue never stops moving. So to all my friends out there, i pray youll find the strength within yourself to continue moving thru your own issues, learning to work around the limitations of the human body. Might i also say that when we have physical challenges, we are humbled to see the world thru a different prism, which ultimately makes us stronger in so many subtle ways that no amount of martial training can ever provide. We mustnt give up. We mustnt stop moving. Lastly, let me say that for many years i flirted with the idea of trying to get back into Martial Arts and Self Defense, but never quite found the right school or trainer. I consider it nothing short of a blessing, to have a friend, mentor and master in Dr. Neil Farber. Neil has the no quite attitude, he knows how to make lemonade out of sour grapes, and is a model in how to rebound from our obstacles, i am slowly learning that flexibility is more a state of mind, than how high i can kick. Thank you Neil. I have nothing but gratitude for your time and patience with me. You are a great teacher and resource for those of us fortunate enough to call Milwaukee home. Grasshopper Rev
