To my non-Muslim friends: In case you dont already know, Shariah Law is a term that refers to a system of laws based on Quran, the prophets own words, called Hadith, the prophets own actions, called Sunnah, and the writings of Muslim scholars throughout history. This results in many different versions of Shariah Law: dependent on both the choice of hadith and sunnah that are followed, as well as the scholars whose fatwas are accepted. As the only scripture that ALL Muslims agree to unequivocally, the Quran cannot be contradicted by ANY other scripture. For this reason alone, any version of Shariah Law that includes the murder of innocents, religious police, religious intolerance, misogyny, or the innumerable horrors practiced by IS, CANNOT be justified in Islam. The killings and atrocities we are all witnessing across the Muslim world, are nothing more than the murderous actions of greedy leaders and their desperate, ignorant followers. Islam means about as much to them as Democracy means to facists: it brings followers, it brings press, and most sadly, it brings money. Our choice is to refuse to let them control our attention. To refuse to give them the public pulpit they want so badly. Please do not watch IS videos. Do not repeat their vicious messages. Do not allow them to speak for Muslims or Islam. If you know Muslims, talk to them!
