To my supporters: I am deeply disappointed to announce that I will not be heading to Malawi this upcoming year as previously planned. Since day one of this project, I have been dedicated to making this dream a reality, diligently preparing myself spiritually, emotionally, educationally, and culturally for the adventure ahead. I made sacrifices, forfeiting internships and employment opportunities to pursue this dream. It was going to be an amazing opportunity filled with joy and a potential for growth beyond my wildest expectations. About a week ago, I was shocked to learn that the support which I had trusted would come to fruition was not coming. It seems that my enthusiasm and commitment to this project were not enough to inspire the necessary financial support required for me to accomplish this mission. Along with a lack of financial support, I felt that continuing to invest my trust and faith in this project would only lead to more frustration and disappointment down the road. The events leading up to my decision to move on were painful, and perhaps for the first time, I felt the red hot sting of objectification. I could not, in good faith, continue to trust and believe in the promises made to me. If I have learned anything from this experience, it is the value of living in integrity and treating others with utmost respect and professional courtesy. Now, I am moving forward and focusing my energy on finding employment here in Pittsburgh, rather than allowing this unfortunate turn of events to spoil my optimism for the future.
