By DG Often when news of high unemployment rate is circulated by news agencies, you can be sure the government will be blamed for not creating sufficient jobs. Many of us have a total misconception regarding the role of government. It is not the government’s responsibility to create jobs for its citizen. The fact is governments dont create jobs. It can perhaps create a pro business and pro-growth environment, in which business may have opportunity to grow and create more jobs. They can build infrastructure, undertake stimulus programs and help people into jobs with training. The rest is up to us. It has often been said: our destiny lies in our own hands. Its very important that we develop skills to help us find employment. That is why education plays such an important role in our lives. Then again, why not think entrepreneurship? Yes, starting your own business can be very rewarding! This undertaking would not only provide better financial security for yourself and your family but also create jobs for others. Furthermore, owning your own business will give you much better chances of creating wealth. Someone once told me: people dont get rich working for others - true words! Unless you are working for an electronics company, in a place like Silicon Valley, the chances are not that great. Our children as well should be encouraged to explore entrepreneurship skills at a very young age. They will learn skills and business attitudes, which will help them to be successful in later years. Teaching them the value of a dollar is probably the first place to start. Get them to open a bank account. Each time they are given monetary funds for birthday or holidays, encourage them to bank half and save half. Spend wisely and teach children about shopping for value. We must place stern emphasis on our childrens education. It is the best investment of all. Our duty is to prepare them for tomorrow.
