To open this show today seems somehow wrong; like, if we could stay, somehow, in perpetual previews, and continue to deal with the insignificant tech issues and turn them into monumental ones...if we could continue to focus on how to make sense of this wacky show and our character arcs and which props and sound cues dont work...if we could continue to dwell on that, we could put off the inevitable crash thats going to come around 5 pm today. The soul crushing realization that our friend is truly gone. And Bernie Yvon, It is not lost on me today that Pepa is looking for her Iván...pronounced exactly like your last name...and keeps asking why he has gone, just as I keep asking why you had to go. If you are so inclined, send the cast and crew of Women on the Verge a little love today at 2:30, as we begin our opening performance, but send even a little more love at 5, when the show is over and I suspect the full magnitude of these 2 weeks is going to hit us with the full weight of its force. Bernie, your joy and presence will be carried onstage with us today, but I sure as hell wish it was actually you, onstage, instead.
