To put in better words what I was drunkenly trying to get across - TopicsExpress

To put in better words what I was drunkenly trying to get across last night in my status: Dear drunk girl in greek town last night, All I can say is I am appalled at your comment yesterday. I can honestly say that I have never been more offended by a homophobic slur than I was last night. As I sat on the curb holding one of my best friends, trying to comfort him while he broke down from the tragic news of the passing of one of his close relatives, you had the audacity to voice your bigoted query, what are you two gay? This question would be inappropriate enough but the look of judgement bordering disgust on your face made it that much worse. You seem to be suggesting a few things that are so completely misguided and ignorant I almost cannot wrap my head around them. With those 5 words you disrespected an entire community and dishonored the memory of my friends lost loved one. In one sentence you stereotyped an entire group of people as overdramatic in the worst sense, and then insinuated that my friends relative wasnt worth mourning unless youre one of those types of people. I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt and think it was a moment of poor humor on your part, but that wasnt the case. As my friend yelled back at you what does it matter if we are? you turned to your friends and laughed amongst each other, then got into your sober ride and sped off. Honestly, I hope you see this. I hope you realize that your words and actions can hurt others deeply. And for everyone else who may read this I hope you do as well. Its something that I know I need to better myself on too. I dont experience discrimination of this nature often, but I know that there are people out there who face it daily. So please, think before you speak. You never know how much your words can affect others.
