To quote a Dilbert cartoon, this has long day written all over it... At lunch, the Ministries Council has not yet approved the fourth (of 22) sections of its deliverance, with much still to come. So far, The convener has emphasised the need for the church to develop new patterns of ministry and congregational life, in order to meet the challenges of a shortfall of ministers. There have been comments on such topics as how to use the gifts of retired ministers, to encourage young people feeling the call to ministry that they dont need experience before entering, and to ensure that the call to ministry is not about who you know, but what you are. Earlier, the Very Rev David Lacy asked what action the Assembly could take about the flagrant disobedience of its own acts in the refusal of some people in the Presbytery of Lochcarron and Skye to recognise a woman as moderator of the General Assembly. He was advised that if someone felt discriminated against it should be taken up with the presbytery in the first instance. One Elder from the Presbytery emphasised that it was only a small minority who object to woman elders.
