To review decisions made at the AOS #81 Board meeting Wednesday - TopicsExpress

To review decisions made at the AOS #81 Board meeting Wednesday night (over a period of 4 hours!). The Superintendent Search Committee was confirmed along with the addition of two more members: From RSU 63 - Don Spencer (Principal/Eddington Elementary School); Maynard Walton (8th grade science teacher/Holbrook Middle School); Elena Perrello (Guidance Counselor/Eddington & Holden Elementary Schools); and David McCluskey (RSU 63 School Board Chair). From AOS #81 - Kelly Theriault (Business Manager); and Susan McKenzie (Secretary to the Superintendent of Schools). From CSD #8 (Airline) - Andrew Bryan (Head teacher/Principal); Kim Stecker (Airline School teacher); and Matt Smith (CSD #8 School Board Director). Kelly Theriault was selected by the committee to be its Chair. The AOS #81 Board authorized the Search committee to contract up to $2,500 in services from MSMA (Maine School Management Association), which will include electronic posting of the position ad and application form by December 1, 2014. Selected services may include screening of applications submitted, and background and reference checks of applicants selected for interviews. The AOS #81 Board authorized the Search Committee to advertise for a Full-Time Superintendent. (It is understood that, after the first year, the position may combine superintendent responsibilities with the duties of another department head (to be determined).) For that reason, the Search Committee is encouraged to seek applicants with multiple certifications (superintendent, director of special services, curriculum, etc.). The AOS #81 Board authorized surveys to be produced and distributed to all schools (4) in the two districts, which are to be sent home via students on Tuesday. These surveys will allow parents, teachers, administrators, school board directors, and members of the public to identify their top 5 priorities for the new superintendent in three areas: (1) personal characteristics/attributes; (2) professional experience & qualifications; and (3) duties & responsibilities. The survey is also expected to be available on the RSU #63 website for electronic completion for those individuals comfortable with computer interaction. Otherwise, people can complete the paper version that will be available through school access. Due date for return of the completed copies is Tuesday, October 10, 2014 at NOON. Any survey (paper or electronic) returned after that date/time will not be included. Paper and electronic copies will be picked up at the schools/calculated at that time and delivered to the Search Committee Chair for use in preparing the position ad and application form. The ad and application will be posted on various electronic websites on December 1, 2014. The regular AOS #81 Boards public meeting was followed by three executive sessions when the evaluations and contracts for three administrative personnel were reviewed. Considering that the meeting began at 6:30PM and did not end until 10:30PM, it was a very long and exhausting meeting.
