To say I am excited would be somewhat of an understatement! College football all day and the Razorback/Auburn game coming into my living room has me fired up! The game its self is interesting to a football fan, the possibility of an upset looms large! I am more excited to see the work of two of our Reddies , Gus Malzahn, the head coach at Auburn and J.B. Grimes, the Auburn offensive line coach are front and center of NCAA/SEC football history! In my minds eye I can just see Coach Sporty Carpenter kicking back and watching the game through a coachs eye, seeing details most fans dont see, enjoying the offensive lines work, a facet many football fans dont even see. You see, J.B. Grimes, from tiny Clarendon Arkansas was an offensive lineman, one of Sportys Dawgs, under appreciated and seldom mentioned in victory talks but viscerally important to the teams success! Coach Carpenter was a man who saw such details and he addressed them to the benefit of his boys. Now, J.B. is the keeper of an offensive line that is arguably one of the best in the nation, his center is high on the pro scout list! Watch them today if you can, they are poetry in motion, stepping with precision, folding and pulling, ricocheting, butting and blocking with fervor! I am stoked! And then there is Gus, quietly intelligent, focused, pacing, thinking, ebullient in his role as master of the rings! He came to HSU that way, a study in concentration, he was a leader, quietly mapping out his path to glory! Those two, boys as Sporty would invariably tag them are men of honor and integrity, respected by their peers and bent on success, I salute them and look forward to their battle.
