To say that The Tale of The Princess Kaguya is a beautiful film would be underselling it. This is an amazing story with positive messages and themes just pouring out of it. Visually, its beautiful in a way that I havent seen in a long time, with barely any backdrop art, pastels and charcoals fill the scenes with so much deliberate art. My favorite bits are when the film cuts to snakes moving through the grass, crickets climbing across a leaf. Every movement is deliberate and beautiful. As far as themes go, Id almost say that its one of the most feminist movies Ive seen since Brave. But that undercuts the lessons the father learns, trying to thrust his own personal vision of what happiness should be, to a daughter that just wants to roll in the grass and watch the birds sing. If you get the opportunity, go and see it on the big screen, the visuals are worth it.
