To say that You have to be powerful to be submissive is an example - TopicsExpress

To say that You have to be powerful to be submissive is an example of how trauma is integrated into both the cognitive and limbic (bodily) systems. The new research shows that trauma memories are actually stored in the body (and in a different place in the brain to non- trauma memories) and they are so powerful that when flooded, they close down the frontal lobes (rational, reflective part of the brain). So what may seem like rational, thoughtful analysis, is actually a non-frontal lobe way of making sense of intense and painful bodily sensations. And once you add patriarchy into the mix, you have all these abusive men raping women and children, causing traumatic responses that then allow for those abusive men into BDSM (who may or may not be rapists) to have their pick of women who, with activated traumatic limbic systems, claim BDSM as a way to empowerment. What perfectly sick synergy this is. -Gail Dines
