To see this video, on this particular day, is mind-blowing. It is of little kids discovering their shadows, and their reactions, is so touching. It brought to mind something I describe in my book, about the first indication I had that there was something very different about Shayna, that she was curious about, and deeply pondered various phenomena, just as a little kid does. Heres a picture I took of her, at about 5 months, doing just that: shaynathemiracledog/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Shayna-w-shadow1.jpg She saw her shadow for the first time, and sat there for about 5 minutes, watching. I was so intrigued I took this picture. Today is the two-year anniversary of her diagnosis with heart cancer; it was two years ago yesterday that she collapsed, out of the blue, and we spent the entire night in the emergency hospital, waiting for the radiologist to arrive, during Hurricane Sandy, to do the imaging of Shaynas heart. As I describe in my book, Shayna gave me back my life, and taught me to see and appreciate all the little miracles that are so easy to miss. And learning to be her dad was the best job I ever had in my life.
