To solve Sabahs security problems, Najib must address the presence of 1.9 million aliens in the country. Quote: Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak’s response to the terrorist attack on Mabul Island, which led to the death of a policeman and the abduction of another is a little too late, Gelang Patah MP Lim Kit Siang said today. Lim said Najib should have ordered a review of the security system to prevent intrusion when the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) was established 15 months ago. “It should have been the first order after the terrorist incursion into Lahad Datu in April last year,” Lim said in a press statement today. He said there had been many murders, abductions and violations since Esscom was formed. “The territorial integrity and sovereignty of Sabah and Malaysia had been violated by Filipino terrorists,” he said. Lim said the decision had proved to be the most “costly and unproductive” of all government decisions, in terms of human lives, international image, economic costs and public expenditure. “Even MPs from both Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat had demanded that Esscom be abolished and replaced with a more effective security high command structure in Sabah,” said Lim. This is contrary to Najib’s boast at Esscom’s launch that this was “the fastest decision made in the history of Malaysia in terms of creating posts in any government agency”.
